This morning we had our first Flashlight Friday in our classroom! Students were so excited to dim the lights, hang up our special "black-out" curtains and read by the light of our flashlights! Isn't reading fun?!
Launching Our Agriculture Unit
On Wednesday, we launched our new social unit on agriculture by activating our prior knowledge and determining what we are most interested in learning about farming communities. Here is our KWL chart:
K - What we already KNOW
W - What we WANT to know or our WONDERS
L - What we LEARNED after the unit is completed
We are getting excited for our field trip to the Western Canadian Agribition next Friday where we will explore many of these questions we have through real experiences that we will remember for a long time! Don't forget to hand in your field trip permission forms if you haven't already!

Learning About Stress Management
In Health, we started a new unit on stress management. This week students have identified what makes them stressed on a 5 point scale:
Our Stress Scale
5 = This could make me lose control
4 = This can really upset me
3 = This can make me feel nervous
2 = This sometimes bothers me
1 = This never bothers me
We will be using the language of this scale throughout the year to recognize what we may be feeling on the stress chart and identify what things we can do to bring us back down to a level 1.

We have also introduced the concept of creating a balanced life and exploring what this looks like using the acronym "Take Care of Your SELF"
S: SLEEP
E: EXERCISE
L: LEISURE
F: FOOD
In the upcoming weeks, students will be responsible for creating their own SELF posters illustrating how they create balance, following the SELF acronym, in order to manage the stresses they feel on home, with friends or in the classroom.

Proud Moments: Word Work
I love when students take pride in their work and want to share their hard work on the blog with their families! Here students are preparing for the Individualized Spelling Test on Friday, practicing their spelling words during Daily 5.
"Ms. Cameron! Come look what I did...Can you take a picture for the blog?"
