Wow! Not only did we have some great costumes in our classroom on Halloween, but everyone worked so hard for their Halloween party at the end of the day! They really earned some fun with friends. Together we made some Halloween origami and had some Pie-Face fun!

New Virtue of the Month: Respect
Congratulations to Luke and Laiba for winning the virtue award for self control at our last assembly. We are now focusing on the virtue of respect. This week we talked about what it looks like to respect yourself, others and the environment. I'm so proud of the quality conversations we have been having about respect. Check out a small sample of the great ideas students came up with below!
Mission Possible: Meet Our Secret Agents!
Friday was National Random Act of Kindness Day. We spread some joy to those we love by writing personal notes to fill others buckets. We also started MISSION POSSIBLE. Students, or should I say our Secret Agents, will have all next week to perform 7 random acts of kindness without blowing their cover! The following Monday, students who bring back their completed form will be entered in a special draw for a prize! The best way to fill our own bucket is by spreading kindness to others!
Learning About Fire Safety
On Wednesday, we had a visit from the Regina Firefighters. Students were able to practice what they would if there was a fire at their home. They also practiced calling 911 and reporting their home address and phone number in case of an emergency. Please practice this at home with your child by asking them if they know their phone number and home address. The students did a great job and learned a lot about fire safety!
Home Reading & New Reading Logs!
On Friday our first home reading log went home and students are eager to "read" their way to the reading party at the end of the month. Students are asked to read at least 15 minutes every night and if they achieve this goal, and return their reading log at the end of the month they will be invited to the November reading party. I encourage students who didn't make the goal, but still read and worked towards their goal to bring in their reading log for a prize. If students can't fit in their reading one night, they are required to make up for those 15 minutes another night. Parents must sign the reading log at the end of the month before students hand it in. I'm excited about the enthusiasm towards home reading with the addition of the reading parties. Please encourage your child to read at home as this will make such a big difference in their reading progress this year! Many students have books sent home at their reading level. If your child has home reading books, please encourage them to read them at least 3 or more times before returning their books to Ms. Cameron in order to build reading fluency and confidence!
The reading party is planned with the students who have met their reading goal, and usually involves cooperative games. Sometimes students choose themed parties - pizza and PJ's, a technology party, an ice cream sundae party or my past students favorite - game board party. After our Halloween Party, there was a lot of excitement around the possibility of there being a "Pie Face Reading Party". I hope to see EVERYONE meet their home reading goal this month!
