We had an awesome day at the Dirt Hills, located outside of the town of Avonlea on Monday. It was a bit chilly in the morning, but it didn't take long for the sun to come out! Our expert, Doug Conway toured us around the area and we learned so much from him about rocks, minerals, erosion, glaciers, grasshoppers, cows, plants (just ask how the cactus berries taste!) and so much more!
The Terry Fox Run
We had fantastic weather for our annual Terry Fox Run on Wednesday, September 30th. Many of us also wore orange on this day to recognize those who were forced to attend residential schools.
Bringing the Museum to our Classroom!
This week students were able to explore many unique rocks and minerals from the Royal SK Museum. They also learned how to test rocks and minerals using hardness, texture, color, and luster.
Home Reading Program Starts Oct. 1st.
October 1st marks the first day of our home reading program! Students were sent home with a reading log where they will track their home reading minutes. *Reading logs require a parent signature each day to ensure students are doing their "home reading homework". Their goal is to read 15 minutes every night. If they are unable to read for 15 minutes one night, they can read for a longer time the next night to stay on track with their reading goals. At the end of every month, students will return their reading logs. If students meet their goal they will be able to take part in our monthly reading party to celebrate.
One way you can help your child at home is to read with your child and make books available to your child by visiting the public library. Students are able to take one of their school library books home at a time to read as well. I'm really excited to watch students excel as build their reading skills each and every day! Happy reading!
