On Wednesday we had our first Circle of Courage Assembly. These gatherings are similar to last year's virtue award assembly, but this year our focus in on the 4 principles of the circle of courage: Belonging, Mastery, Independence and Generosity. Congratulations to Axinia and Maham who received an award for demonstrating belonging.
Fall Art Project
Congratulations Taleena!
This week students entered a school draw in hopes of winning $25 worth of books from our Monster Book Fair. Congratulations to Taleena who was drawn as the winner! Thanks to Taleena's win, our whole class feels like winners because we also won $25 worth of new books for our classroom bookshelf!
Goal Setting Conferences
I'm looking forward to meeting many new families tomorrow at our first goal setting conference. It's so nice to be proactive and be able to touch base with you about your child's progress earlier in the year! Thank you for being such a supportive team of parents who are involved in their child's day to day learning!
Reminder: October Reading Logs are Due!
Please return your reading log as soon as possible. They are due on Monday, November 2nd. Once collected, we will be tallying up the minutes and announcing our October Reading Party to celebrate! I'm excited to see how our readers have grown in just one month of home reading practice!
Wanted: Shoe Boxes
We are collecting shoe boxes for a new social project. If you have any empty shoe boxes at home that you are willing to donate it would be very much appreciated! In social we are looking at the impact of geography, environment and climate on the land and will be building our own"imaginary" settlement dioramas. Students will be required to come up with a name for the settlement, showing the buildings, houses, land features (rivers, lakes, valley, hills etc.) and come up with an industry (agriculture, tourism, mining, forestry etc.) on which the settlement is based. The class is so excited - I've even had tons of requests to work on the planning, and building of their dioramas at home and we've only started talking about it!(I love their enthusiasm!). Please send a shoe box (or two) with your child to school as soon as possible so we can get our projects up and running! I will provide some crafting supplies (construction paper, clay, pipe cleaners etc.) to bring the project to life, but if you have any extra craft supplies at home that you would be willing to contribute it would be greatly appreciated. If students have ideas but I don't have the materials to make their vision come to life, they are welcome to bring some materials from home with your permission.
Thanks so much!
We will keep you posted as the construction phase begins! Stay tuned...
