Exciting News! We kicked off our Writer's Workshop this week! Students also took part in a marshmallow activity to help them understand self control. Students were each given one marshmallow and had to make a a choice. They could either eat the tasty marshmallow right away or resist the temptation. If they used self control and did not eat the marshmallow in the first 15 minutes, they would receive a second marshmallow. Although it was tempting to eat the initial marshmallow, students demonstrated a great level of self control in order to reach their goal and it was a fun way practice "think before you act". Self control involves controlling your thoughts to act the way you know and feel is right. We had a lot of fun with it and reflected on our experience in our brand new WoW (Work on Writing) books!
Several students even volunteered to read their writing during our very first share chair! They were excited to dim the lights, turn on our "spotlight" and share their writing in front of an audience. I'm so proud of each and every one of our writers and I can't wait to watch our students grow this year and gain more confidence as readers and writers!

Building Classroom Community
Each morning students are asked to respond to a new prompt as part of our morning routine. It's a great way to start our day in a positive way and learn more about each other along the way.
